[EN] The VEHA Archive, a platform for collection, analysis and preservation of cultural heritage, archival photography and visual history of Belarus.
The VEHA archive involves the collection and cataloguing of amateur and family photographs, documenting various aspects of social life since the advent of this medium in contemporary Belarus. The themes of the collection so far have included family shots in front of home-woven carpets, wedding and funeral compositions, and images of people against a forest backdrop. A separate book with photographs and research texts has been produced for each theme. By collecting, researching and disseminating a visual social archive, VEHA aims to preserve the traces of the history of everyday life in Belarus. Given that the Belarusian state and public institutions often erase or even destroy remains of local culture, either deliberately or due to a lack of resources, the VEHA project can be seen as a manifestation of both cultural and civic activism.

Archiwum VEHA obejmuje gromadzenie i katalogowanie fotografii amatorskich i rodzinnych, dokumentujących różne aspekty życia społecznego od czasu pojawienia się tego medium na współczesnej Białorusi. Dotychczasowe tematy kolekcji obejmowały zdjęcia rodzinne na tle domowych dywanów, kompozycje ślubne i pogrzebowe oraz zdjęcia ludzi na tle lasu. Dla każdego tematu powstała osobna książka ze zdjęciami i tekstami badawczymi. Poprzez gromadzenie, badanie i rozpowszechnianie wizualnego archiwum społecznego, VEHA ma na celu zachowanie śladów historii życia codziennego na Białorusi. Biorąc pod uwagę, że białoruskie państwo i instytucje publiczne często wymazują lub nawet niszczą pozostałości lokalnej kultury, celowo lub z powodu braku środków, projekt VEHA może być postrzegany jako przejaw zarówno kulturowego, jak i obywatelskiego aktywizmu.
